This morning along with 33,000 other Victorians, I headed to the Herald Sun Citylink Run for the Kids. D and I took the earliest Sunday train down to the city. The train was fully packed with runners, adults and kids, that were buzzing with excitement.
Met up with R, C and V. Sadly B was too sick to come today =( Only C and I (and B in spirit) were in the red zone where we're meant to walk while the others were in yellow zone where they are meant to run the entire thing. But when the race started around 9:30, C and I ran anyway since we were in a sea of yellow zone people. So... might as well go with the flow lol
We ran over Bolte Bridge and through Domain tunnel, up lots of 'bastard hills' and breezed through downhills. Through docklands with 'Eye of the Tiger' blasting through the speakers, cheerleading teams providing moral support after the 11km mark, billboards of MAGNUM AND MCDONALDS BURGER on citylink (omg makes me so hungry!), people stopping behind bushes to relieve themselves because the toilet line was too long.... motivation was DRINK STATIONS and food at the finish line!
Everytime I see the helper people on the sidelines they would say 'Drink station right ahead' and get me all excited. But I'd run... and run... and STILL SEE NO DRINK STATION. what liars lol XD After 10km I was already dead and feet were hurting... but gotta keep moving!
When I saw the finish line, it was the best moment of my life! well not really... but close enough. I sprinted down and YAYYY DONEEEE. So so so happy.
Other highlights: seeing 3 topless smurfs, superman, big 'buff' guys (the fake suite ones), fairies, guy that held up a sign that said 'last bastard hill' when IT WASN'T THE LAST ONE there were still 3 more after it lol, the atmosphere, the scenery, the people!
After the race I seriously did not want to walk another metre. But noo.. we walked from flinders st to little bourke st for lunch =.= When we finally got to sit down we all let out a sigh of relief!
In conclusion (lol so formal), the weather was PERFECT, the marathon set my own personal record of 14.38km, had some great bonding time with the gang, and I can't wait till the next marathon!
